Marliese Nist, PhD, RNC-NIC is an Assistant Professor in the Martha S. Pitzer Center for Women, Children and Youth at The Ohio State University College of Nursing and former neonatal intensive care nurse. Dr. Nist received a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Virginia and subsequently entered an accelerated second degree program at The Ohio State University where she earned her bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in nursing. After graduating with her PhD, Dr. Nist completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship as part of the President’s Postdoctoral Scholar’s Program at Ohio State. Her studies to date have been funded by the National Institute of Nursing Research of the National Institutes of Health, the National Association of Neonatal Nurses, and a number of other nursing organizations and foundations. Dr. Nist's current work focuses on better understanding the stress experiences of hospitalized preterm infants and developing nursing interventions to mitigate the effects of NICU stress exposure on neurodevelopmental outcomes.
