Dr. Drenner is a Clinical Associate Professor in the department of Psychological, Health, and Learning Sciences at University of Houston. Her background is in public health (behavioral sciences and epidemiology) and psychology. Dr. Drenner brings years of experience in research and as a clinician to the courses she teaches in health behavior theory, epidemiology and substance use behavior. She has experience developing, implementing and evaluating interventions aimed at obesity related behaviors in both adults and children. Additionally, Dr. Drenner has worked on randomized controlled trials with a variety of behaviors including alcohol, drug abuse, and smoking. She has over twenty years’ experience with Motivational Interviewing. Dr. Drenner has experience in the training and supervision of health care professionals including physicians, nurses, pharmacists and dieticians to effectively use MI to motivate behavior change.
